SB 375 and AB 1358 Are on the Governor’s Desk

UPDATE (30 September 2008): Both SB 375 and AB 1358 have been signed by the Governor into law.

Remember AB 1358, the Complete Streets Act that we talked about several weeks ago? Well, it finally passed through the California legislature last week and is awaiting the Governor’s signature. SB 375, the major bill on land use and transportation planning, also awaits the Governor’s signature. As of the day of this posting, the state budget is 70 days late, so it’s not clear when the Governor will agree to look to these bills, notwithstanding his recent agreement to sign at least the ballot measure legislation. Given that both these bills are important components of following through with AB 32’s mandate to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which the Governor championed, hopefully his signature will come sooner rather than later. In any case, readers are encouraged to write in to express their support for these bills, or to contact his office by phone (916-445-2841), or by fax (916-558-3160).
