Dear Eric: Excellent piece -- thank you. With all the struggle over water resources today, it is good to hear a fresh voice that provides a factual overview, rather then a personal or agency desire.

I publish books on America's history and was at Lake Shasta in 1977 during the end of the drought at that time. Lake level was down 220 feet and I hiked and drove through the canyons of all arms to visit the sites of the dozen towns that went under Lake Shasta, when it filled. Remarkable sights -- not found even this past season when we were almost 160 feet.

Californian's need to understand our water resources; I believe you have given us a good begining to understand its value.

The book Under Lake Shasta will release later this year.
