		<description>San Leandro really has been dragging its feet on the Bus Rapid Transit -- while they haven&#039;t officially gone on record voicing its opposition to the dedicated lanes down East 14th Street, there&#039;s a majority on the City Council who simply don&#039;t like the idea -- much like their Berkeley counterparts. The difference is there isn&#039;t an organized group in San Leandro like there is in Berkeley voicing their displeasure (and throwing out stupid recommendations to the AC Transit board.) 

I highly doubt there will be any form of dedicated roadway in San Leandro, the city residents are exceptionally car crazy and it&#039;s an epitome of suburban America. Unless it starts investing heavily in Transit Oriented Development in and around its two BART stations, I don&#039;t see any movement on the transit front in the city anytime soon. 

As for an East Bay light rail system, I&#039;m certainly a fan of the idea, but when you have a transit district that seems to shun the idea and can barely build support for a rapid bus line in the community, I&#039;m not holding my breath until I see a return of the Key System.</description>

The real point of opposition is not what arguments are being put forward, but the taking away of lanes from cars and forcing cars into neighborhoods (instead of, you know, forcing people to leave cars at home). This would happen with either rail or BRT, unless you had an elevated line. Then again, decades ago, Berkeleyans voted to tax themselves to replace an elevated BART line with a subway.

Actually, I would&#039;ve rather seen this as LRT instead of BRT (as I&#039;m assuming you would, as well), to get a local rail network going in the East Bay. At this point, I really just want the ROW, but even that is looking like a pain.</description>
